Gambling for Writers
The gambling industry grossed approximately 450 billion dollars worldwide in 2016. There are 20 states in the United States and many amazing vacation spots around the world that have commercial casinos. On top of that, there are underground casinos and groups of friends that hold weekly games for entertainment. Whether you want to write a professional or occasional gambler, in this workshop we will go over the basic rules for some of the most popular casino games, and the basics of sports betting. In addition, we will cover different locations where legalized gaming might be found as well as give you a basic cast of characters that can be found at most casinos and their basic job description. Finally, we will look at the issue of gambling addiction and its effects physical and psychological on the addict.
Elizabeth fell in love with story-telling when she taught herself to read with The Bunny Book the summer after kindergarten. Growing up she treated bedtime as optional and could often be found curled up with a good book late into the night. Before getting her JD and MBA at American University, she tried her hand a filmmaking, earning a Bachelors in Film Production from the University of Southern California. After working for several years in film and television, life took her from Los Angeles to Washington, DC and finally Las Vegas, where she embraced her inner gambler without betting the family savings, or, sadly, striking it rich.Elizabeth is a practicing litigation attorney working towards a transition to a full-time career as a writer. She is the president of the Las Vegas Romance Writers and writes historical, contemporary and paranormal romances, as well as mysteries with romantic elements. Her first three novellas in her McFadden series, set in 1950s Las Vegas, are available in the Sin City Romance Writers’ Anthologies Decades of Love, Love’s First Blush and Love for the Holidays.
